The TV presenter, actor and comedian and his professional partner Nancy Xu found themselves sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard after two weeks, scoring a total of 31 points for their Tango and Samba. In the dance-off, they faced BBC Asian Network radio presenter Nikita Kanda and her professional partner Gorka Marquez.

In a bid to win over the judges and remain in the competition, Les and Nancy performed their Samba to ‘Rock The Boat’ by The Hues Corporation, whilst Nikita and Gorka danced their Charleston to ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ by Beyoncé.

After both couples had danced again, host Tess Daly asked the judges who they wanted to stay in the competition. Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all chose Nikita and Gorka, meaning they made it through to Movie Week on Saturday night.

Head judge Shirley Ballas was not required to vote, but said she would also have saved Nikita and Gorka.

When asked by Tess about his time on the show, Les said: “I’ve had the best time, this lady has been amazing, a great teacher, she’s really put me through my paces.” He added to Nancy, “I did as well as I could for you, I hope! That lot up there, I’m going to miss you so much. I really appreciate and understand the judge’s point of view, thank you so much [to head judge Shirley] for giving me a 10 for entertainment. I hope I’ve entertained, that’s what I came here for. Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you’re just all amazing!”

Nancy was then asked by Tess how it had it been teaching in the training room with her partner Les. She said: “It’s been a journey. This is such a short but a sweet journey. A lot of challenges we all know, but to see you [Les] every day improve yourself. I respect you so, so much. I just want to say thank you to the judges and all my fellow friends. Thank you Strictly Come Dancing for all of your support. Thank you Les.”

This evening’s results show also featured a fabulous routine from Strictly’s troupe of professional dancers to a medley in tribute to the iconic Tina Turner. Singer-songwriter Jorja Smith also made an appearance, performing her song ‘Try Me’.

Les and Nancy will be joining Fleur East and Janette Manrara for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly: It Takes Two on Monday 2^nd October at 6.30pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

The remaining 14 couples will return to the dancefloor next week for the first themed show of the series – it’s time for Movie Week!

After being paired with their professional partners last week, this year’s cast of celebrities took to the legendary Elstree dance floor for their debut performances.

As usual hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were on hand to guide us – and them – through the evening, whilst judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas shared their thoughts on every heel lead and high kick. The show also featured a dramatic opening routine from Strictly’s troupe of professional dancers, set to Tears For Fears’ ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’.

The standard this year is already incredibly high, so picking out our top 5 dances was a very tough choice – shout outs to Jody Cundy’s sparkling old Hollywood quickstep, Krishnan Guru-Murthy’s infectious enthusiasm in his Cha-Cha-Cha and Angela Rippon’s incredible leg extensions! But in no particular order, here’s what we eventually decided on:

Nikita and Gorka – Waltz to ‘Run To You’ by Whitney Houston

It may not have got top marks with the judges, but I adored this Waltz from Nikita. It had a lovely soft, romantic feel about it, with some beautiful lines in her body and very decent footwork (including some heel leads!). There was a really intimate quality to the routine as well – especially in the dramatic drag – and I loved her little pause at the start of the routine with those almost balletic arms. However, what really stood out to me was the emotional connection between her and Gorka. For me that really elevated the whole routine and made them a pair to watch next week.

Layton and Nikita – Samba to ‘Touch’ by Little Mix

A Samba in week one is a very daunting prospect, so well done Layton for not only pulling it off but doing so in style. From the solo opening section the whole performance oozed sass and confidence, as well as perfectly balancing speed and precision with some absolutely jaw-dropping tricks (the splits being a particular standout!). I thought they had great synchronisation as a couple as well and the hip action was excellent. If I had one small criticism, I would have liked a little more bounce and drive into the floor, but overall it was absolutely fierce and I already can’t wait for next week!

Ellie and Vito – Jive to ‘Can’t Tame Her’ by Zara Larsson

Right from the off Ellie went into this routine full of intent and attack, from her precise, strong arm movements to her power across the dance floor and her sharp kicks and flicks. She absolutely nailed that springy Jive action and had really great hand movements, as well as some impressive tricks such as the back bend and drop kick and bags of energy throughout. I also loved her solo section which delivered playful swagger in spades! Although she had a slight wobble on her last trick, she showed that she is definitely a dark horse in this competition and could well be a contender for the glitterball trophy.

Bobby and Dianne – Foxtrot to ‘All About You’ by McFly

This was a complete sugar rush of a Foxtrot, with sweet storytelling and some lovely arms and footwork from Bobby, as well as a nice relaxed quality to the overall performance. It felt slightly rushed in places and there was quite a bit of gapping in hold which I put down to the height difference, but the whole thing was so utterly adorable and charming that I didn’t care – and actually found myself welling up towards the end! Despite Bobby previously professing to be more of a ‘hips and shoulders’ guy, I think he surprised a lot of people and I’ll be really intrigued to see just how far he can go with the Ballroom routines. (Also, Dianne absolutely won the fashion points for the evening in her gorgeous blue dress!)

Nigel and Katya – Paso Doble to ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ by Nirvana

We may have had to wait until the end of the night for their routine, but Nigel and Katya absolutely closed the show with a bang. Their circus-themed Paso had great precision and synchronisation throughout, with Nigel delivering punchy movements out of hold as well as tons of drama. He led Katya around the floor brilliantly and was commanding out of hold too, whether that was spinning around on one leg or the fantastic shapes in his arms, before finishing off with some excellent cape work. It was a powerful performance with tons of confidence and the judges rewarded him with top spot on the leaderboard.

Starting in January and running through February next year, this glittering extravaganza will light up arenas across the UK with a dazzling lineup of 30 sensational shows.

The tour kicks off its dazzling journey at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on 19th January for a series of five spectacular performances. From there, it’s a whirlwind of glitz, glamour, and sequins as the celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners take their sparkling act to some of the UK’s most iconic entertainment venues. They’ll be leaving behind a trail of glitter and enchantment at Utilita Arena Sheffield, Utilita Arena Newcastle, OVO Hydro Glasgow, M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, First Direct Arena Leeds, AO Arena Manchester, Motorpoint Arena Nottingham, and finally, a grand finale at The O2 in London on 11th February.

The mastermind behind the tour’s spectacular choreography is none other than TV Judge Craig Revel Horwood, who promises to deliver a dance extravaganza like no other. The lineup will feature top-notch talent from the current series of the BBC’s award-winning show, which was recently crowned the Best Talent Show at the 2023 National Television Awards. And let’s not forget the electrifying ‘Strictly’ Live Tour Band and singers who will have arena audiences dancing in their seats with their show-stopping tunes and harmonies.

The nights are drawing in, it’s less than 100 days until Christmas, and that familiar theme tune can only mean one thing – Strictly Come Dancing is back for 2023!

The multi-award winning series (which added a National Television Award for Best Talent Show to its own glittering trophy cabinet recently) launched its 21st series tonight on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, opening with a dramatic performance from Strictly’s troupe of professional dancers, performing alongside the judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas in a truly jaw-dropping routine.

Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were also on hand to guide us all through the evening’s proceedings and introduce this year’s 15 new celebrities and announce which professionals they were paired with.

The show also included a heartfelt tribute to the late former Strictly judge Len Goodman, as well as a performance from Jessie Ware of ‘Free Yourself’ accompanied by professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova, Johannes Radebe, Michelle Tsiakkis and Neil Jones.

Reigining champion Hamza Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystał also returned to the Strictly floor for the final time, performing their week 4 Salsa from last year’s series and reminding viewers exactly why they won the competition! Hamza said, “Strictly was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s changed my life, and taught me so much about myself, and I thought already knew myself pretty well”.

Finally, the class of 2023 were matched up with their professional partners in locations around the UK – ranging from the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom to the set of Eastenders and even Centre Court at Wimbledon!

Dennis has been in showbiz for over 50 years, including famously hosting ‘Family Fortunes’ for 16 years. He started his career as a comedian on the Working Men’s Club circuit in and around his native Liverpool. Dennis’ big break was on TV Talent show ‘New Faces’, and went on to star in sketch and variety show ‘The Laughter Show’, forming a double-act with the late Dustin Gee.  

His TV career includes roles in ‘Extras’, ‘Brookside’, ‘Death in Paradise’ and ‘Midsomer Murders’ and two years in ‘Coronation Street’.  On stage he’s starred with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the English National Opera, and in hit plays and musicals such as ‘Hairspray’, ‘Legally Blonde The Musical’ and ’42^nd Street’.  

Dennis said: “I’m thrilled to be doing this iconic wonderful show as I approach my 70th birthday! In my career I’ve always gone for challenges outside my comfort zone and this is the ultimate one! Can’t wait.”

Croft is a former British Number One tennis player who at 15 years old was the youngest British player to compete at Wimbledon for 95 years.

She also represented Great Britain in prestigious Wightman and Federation Cup competitions, and continues to play an integral role in the coverage of Wimbledon each year and has done for many years.

Outside of tennis, Croft has fronted entertainment shows such as ‘Treasure Hunt’ and ‘Inceptor’ and has enjoyed a long lasting broadcast career covering all the major tennis events worldwide. Her TV and radio career includes presenting, commentating, and working as a highly respected pundit for all the major broadcasters including BBC, Sky, Amazon Prime, ITV and Discovery.

Cundy is a decorated World and Paralympic Champion, he has represented Great Britain at seven Summer Paralympics winning eight Gold, one Silver and three Bronze medals across swimming and cycling events. He has also competed in multiple World Championships, winning 23 world titles. The most recent win coming at the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow this week .

After competing at Tokyo 2021, Cundy became the first man in Paralympics GB history to win medals at seven different games. In 2012 the Anglia Ruskin University made him and Honorary Doctor in Health Sciences, and a month later he was given an Honorary Master of Science degree from the University of Hertfordshire.

In 2009 he was awarded an MBE for his services to Disability sport, in 2017 this was upgraded to an OBE for his services to Swimming & Cycling & in 2022 he received a CBE for services to cycling.

He currently holds the world record in the Flying 200m and the 1km Time Trial. He also holds 14 consecutive world titles in the MC4 Kilo Time Trial.

Cundy said: “Excited to be welcomed into the Strictly family and throw myself head first into the world of ballroom dancing. So far away from what I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and pushing myself way out of my comfort zone, especially as I’m always last onto the dance floor” Can’t wait to get stuck in, bring on the glitter and sequins!”

The 10th contestant to be confirmed for the upcoming series, Leach is best-known for portraying Faye Windass for 12 years on ‘Coronation Street’. She has been nominated for multiple British Soap Awards and Inside Soap Awards for her role. Leach has been at the centre of hard-hitting storylines including being pregnant at 13, discovering she was going through the menopause and reconnecting with the child she gave up – which led to her departing the cobbles earlier this year.
